Type of Workshop: | Album | |
This intermediate-level workshop is perfect for craft enthusiasts with an interest and some knowledge in book binding. If you are a beginner, the class may be challenging but it will also be a great way to learn. You will be creating the album from scratch (there will be no pre-cut elements) and learning the intriguing method of creating a false spine for your album. We will show you how to use fabric on the cover of your book using binding tool ruler guides, and you will learn how to bind the spine and create the interior pages. We will also show you fun ways to create pages with extra pocket boxes and zigzag extensions, along with several ways to adorn the pages, add tags, and place a shaker on the cover. - What products will be highlighted: Craft fabric, wood shaker, Happy Days paper and ephemera, ribbon, and shaker mix.
- What will I learn or complete: You will leave with the core (binding, cover, and shaker) of your album completed. Work at home may be needed to decorate your album.
- What do I need to bring to class: Paper trimmer, scissors, X-Acto/craft knife, scoreboard, bone folder, ruler, bookbinding spatula, small magnets (15 mm or similar), towel (for fabric), paper towels, baby wipes, small plastic container (for glue), silicone brush or 1" regular brush, Fabric-Tac Glue (6-8 oz), and Aleene's Tacky Glue (all-purpose).
- What do I need to finish at home: Nothing.
- What techniques will I learn or use: You will learn how to create a false binding, how to use fabric on craft projects, how to create box tags for pages, how to apply a wood shaker on fabric, and bookbinding techniques.
- Will I complete this project in class: It is possible some people will finish the projects in class.
