Learn the methods for creating this one-of-a-kind album using Steampunk-style techniques! This magnificent wood cover album (9.5 x 7.5 x 2.25") is specifically designed for intermediate and advanced-level crafters. Most of the class time will be spent assembling and painting the covers and creating the binding for the album using numerous techniques. Depending on your level of experience, you may or may not finish the covers and binding in class. But you will receive a link for a series of private online videos with step-by-step instructions to complete your album at home. Our two-hour workshop will get you inspired with even more great ideas and exciting ways to unleash your imagination! Please note: Paint and gesso for the project will be supplied in the classroom only.
- What products will be highlighted: Wood products, stencils, chipboard cutouts, metallic acrylic paint, gesso, flat pearl accents, paper and cardstock, ephemera, and faux leather.
- What will I learn or complete: In class, we will focus on assembling and painting the album covers and creating the binding. You will receive a link for a series of private online videos with step-by-step instructions to complete your album at home.
- What do I need to bring to class: Paper trimmer, scoreboard, scissors, craft knife, tweezers, bone folder, heat tool, spatula, silicone brush (or regular brush), sea sponge for painting effects, Gorilla Glue (wood), Beacon Permanent Fabric Adhesive, double-sided tape, liquid glue, and wipes. Optional: Gloves.
- What do I need to finish at home: Acrylic paint, metallic acrylic paint, and gesso.
- What techniques will I learn or use: You will learn how to use and apply metallic acrylic paints to the covers. You will learn embellishing techniques that incorporate chipboard shapes, wood, paper, and faux leather on your covers. In addition, you will learn bookbinding techniques to take your future book creations to the next level.
- Will I complete this project in class: Work at home will be needed to finish projects.
